Overview of Operations

The Tokyo Waterfront Area Rapid Transit Rinkai Line starts at Shin-Kiba Station and runs through to Osaki Station. On the way, the service passes through Odaiba and Tokyo Big Sight Stations, and offers a convenient mode of transport for domestic and international visitors.

Construction of the first section of the Rinkai Line from Shin-Kiba to Tokyo Teleport Station (4.9km) began in 1992, with the line commencing operation in 1996. This section made use of the existing Keiyo Freight Line – a relic of the old era of Japan’s national railway – with previously unbuilt sections having to be constructed independently. In 1996 work began on the second phase of construction – to Tennozu Isle Station. Work was completed in March 2001, when the new section opened. By December 2002 the entirety of the line, connecting with Osaki Station was open to the public. The journey from Kiba to Osaki takes approximately 18 minutes, where through-services on the Japan Rail Saikyo Line are available.
